It's not hard to be faster and cheaper than a VAX/780. It's now
an old machine (more than 6 years!). Unfortunately DEC hasn't come
out with a new top end machine but insists on selling you multiple
780's to do the job. USELESS! One 780 not enough for you? Pay
twice as much and get 2 780's that perform at about 1.7 times as fast.

	Foo, I doubt we'll buy anymore VAX's.

Why not buy a VAX CPU and build a DUAL VAX-11/780?
I'm not sure of the cost advantage exactly, but I would guess
you would be getting 1.9 Vaxen for the cost of 1.3 or so.

I've seen them make a DUAL Vax over lunch hour around here,
so it can't be too hard.

Last time I heard, Purdue was on self-maintenance for VAXen. I doubt
DEC will maintain a dual CPU VAX. We're going the Pyramid route our-
selves. Price for a 90x with 2 disk controllers, 4 Eagles, 4 Mbyte
memory, Ethernet, 64 ports on 4 Intelligent Terminal Processors (ITP),
C, Pascal, F77, 64 user UNIX license is $185K. Complete source code makes
up $16K of that price.
