[comp.sys.hp] rdump and rrestore

curtv@mist.CS.ORST.EDU (Curt Vandetta) (05/27/89)

I'm looking for rmt, rdump and rrestore for HP_UX, has anyone
done this port? Specifically I want to put rdump and rrestore
on an HP 835 running HP-UX 3.10 and have it dump to an HP 370
running HP-UX 6.5. Any help would be most appreciated.

Also, I grabbed the new BSD libraries off of sdd.hp.com, but I
couldn't find the include files that were supposed to be with them.
Does anyone have a copy of these (BSD -> HP-UX, I assume) include files?

 Thanks in advance,
 Curt

I went looking for this stuff a while ago. It turns out that 4.3 dump
and restore have Death Star (At&T) code in them, and so were not part
of the tahoe release.

The good news: You can do just about as well with gnu tar (latest version is
1.07). This includes the source for rmt, as well as supporting remote dumps
(including incremental and multivolume archives) and restores. I have
patches for Gnu tar for the series 300 (HPUX 6.5) -- I presume that
they would be more or less what was needed for the 800s. I can post
the patches if there is interest. Only possible bug: gnu tar doesn't
seem to notice when an NFS-mounted volume starts, and tries to dump this
stuff, too. I'll probably have to investigate this....
