[comp.sys.hp] HP Common Lisp and HP-UX 6.2-->6.5 upgrade.

irf@kuling.UUCP (Bo Thide') (08/03/89)

I have an HP9000/370 AIM (Artificial Intelligence Monochrome bundled system)
and am still running HP-UX 6.2 and full HP Common Lisp I on it. With the
upgrade 6.0 --> 6.2 I installed the (then) new HP Development Environment
for Common Lisp Release 2.01. This has worked very well together with
the Lisp-based AI/Symbolic Algebra software we have and which was compiled
with an early version of HP Common Lisp (HP-UX release 5.5, I think).

In order to upgrade to 6.5 (which we have done already on our 9000/360)
I understand I have to change to HP Common Lisp II (Lucid Lisp). The question
is what to do with our old AI software. The problem is that we do *not*
have the full source code for the Symbolic Algebra package (Reduce 3.2) and
some other AI software. It is not clear to me how this will be handled and
I have a few questions:

1. Will the Lisp Kit 98678-87902 with the tape 98678-11034, which I have
got, make it possible for me to run old my old (binary only) Lisp
programs (such as the Symbolic Algebra package I mentioned above),
compiled with HP Common Lisp I, in the new HP Common Lisp II environment?

2. It says in the "Installing the HP Common Lisp 2.01 Kit" info sheet
that came with the tape98678-11034 (for 6.2 --6.5 Lisp upgrade) that
one must relink libsb1.a to libsb1.10.a. As I understand this
library is for MC68010. Does this mean that all my Starbase software
linked with libsb1.a would run slower and that I should rather
link "normal" graphics programs with the 68020/30 sb1 library instead?

3. When will it be possible to run NMODE (and other Lisp applications relying
    on HP Windows) under X11?

Looking forward to hearing the good news.
