Question regarding YP differences from HP-UX 6.2 to 6.5 on the HP9000/300. It appears that programs compiled under HP-UX 6.2 that use the YP routines will not work under HP-UX 6.5. If the source is recompiled, the programs run just fine. While this isn't a problem for our programs (which we have source for), it is a problem for our purchased tools (which we don't have source and it takes months to get them reported). I don't recall seeing anything about this change in the release notes. Am I the only one having this problem? Is there a solution other than recompiling files? Why did HP change the YP routines so they aren't upward compatible?? I hope this doesn't become a habit. Thanks... Steve Mestad.....email stevem%pserv@src.honeywell.com

I has to do with having the floating point accelarator. I agree, I hope this does not become a habbit. ALSO BEWARE, the release notes talk about doing shutdowns from csh/ksh with stopped jobs. The consequences are sometimes more serious then as documented. We did this one tome and trashed our boot disc. We had to re-install 6.5. Hope this is helpful. Jim Barbour
