[comp.sys.hp] info on rgb-to-vcr boards

bill@boulder.Colorado.EDU (07/20/89)

  Hi,
I just got something in the mail from a company called
Folsom Research advertising a board that can be plugged into
a 9000-3x0, which will convert the rgb signal into something that
can be used by a TV or VCR.

A board like that would come in really handy for me, since I
do simulations of biologically realistic neural networks and
display the output using fancy graphics on a TurboSRX, and it's
a problem saving the graphics in a form I can show to people.

On the other hand, it's a lot of money ($5900) to lay out for
a piece of hardware I don't know anything about.

Does anybody have any advice? Is this a good product, and are
there other things around that do the same job? I'd appreciate
any information anybody can give me.

Please reply by e-mail; if anybody is interested enough to send
me mail saying so, I'll summarize to the net. (On the other hand,
requests for confidentiality will be respected.)

				   Thanks,
					 Bill Skaggs

Bill:

My customer bought one to hook up to a large screen projection system
and he seems to think the board does a pretty good job. The system
requires no effort to get running, he had the display up in about
10 minutes.

I was able to get a loaner from Folsom to try the card out.
You might want to do the same.
