When is HP going to rewrite it's C compiler for the 9000/300 series of workstations to add support for ANSI C. Is this going to be included in 7.0? Also when will object oriented C be supported by HP (or is it going to be?)? Are there any Object oriented C compilers for the HP 9000/300 that offer support for X widget programming??:-) Some developer could make a million if they developed an Interface builder (from the NeXT) for X on the HP(hint, hint) Michael Steele mikes@ncsuvx.ncsu.edu -- Michael Steele mikes@ncsuvx.ncsu.edu mikes@ncsuctix.ncsuvx.ncsu.edu netoprms@ncsuvm.bitnet

Also when will object oriented C be supported by HP (or is it going to > be?)? ANSI C will not be in 7.0 for the S300. However, the priority for ANSI C is very high so you should see it in a release soon thereafter. Note that ANSI C has not yet been approved as a standard. I don't understand what object oriented C is. Are you referring to C++? Mike McNelly mike%hpfcla@hplabs.hp.com

Also when will object oriented C be supported by HP (or is it going to >be?)? I don't know how much this will interest you, but the 9000/800 series workstations will have an ANSI C compiler on 7.0. >Are there any Object oriented C compilers for the HP 9000/300 that offer >support for X widget programming??:-) Some developer could make a million >if they developed an Interface builder (from the NeXT) for X on the HP(hint, >hint) If what you want is a compiler for C++ or Objective C (I can't quite figure out which one you are referring to), these are already available : C++ v1.2 on the 9000/300 is available from several vendors, like Oasys and Oregon Software. Objective C is available from StepStone, Inc. If what you want is a User Interface builder, a product called "UIMX" from Visual Edge was demonstrated at Xhibition '89 in San Jose (June 25-28). This is a menu-based WYSIWYG user-interface builder for X11 and the HP Widget set that actually writes out C code that you can compile into your application. It's quite a fancy product and was the rage of Xhibition '89. I'm not sure what the release date is, but I've seen prerelease copies of it, and it's almost all that you could wish for.. ----- Shankar Unni E-Mail: Hewlett-Packard California Language Lab.
