I have a script which apparently is exceding the limit on the number or length of shell variables permitted in the Bourne shell. It permits the user to enter several variables, then writes a file containing the values of these variables. Beyond a certain number of characters stored in the shell variables, the file which is written will be corupt. Cat will write correctly the first part of the file, but the last part contains garbage. What is the limit on shell variables and can this be adjusted? I am running HP-UX on 9825S. (Yes, the work-around is C, but I would still like to know what the limit is.)
