[comp.sys.hp] texx2 for X11R2/hpux?

irf@kuling.UUCP (Bo Thide') (09/02/89)

For a long time I have tried to get the X Window TeX previewer 'texx2.8'
up on our HPs that run the HP-UX version of X11R2. Unfortunately,
it doesn't help if I use Xaw, Xmu and Xt from the X11R3 distribution.
Even if I can get 'texx2' to compile by rewriting the source code and
fixing what seem to be bugs in it, it will not link irrespective of
in what order I specify the X libraries.

Is there a later version of 'texx2' that is less broken(?) and that
works on HP 9000/300 and 800 series machines? I would appreciate
a copy e-mailed to bt@irfu.se. In the meantime, I have started to send
out the streamer cassettes with the HP TeX to those of you who contacted
me. I am very sorry about the long delay, but the problems with 'texx2'
(and the time I have to spend on my research project) has prevented
me from sending it out earlier.

BTW, TeX proper now fits on a 16 MB streamer but TeX+METAFONT does not.

The problem must stem from using X11R2 - texx2.8 compiled and ran on
Sun-3, Sun-4, DEC VAX, PMAX, PC/RT, Encore, Sequent, Iris 4D and a
couple of other installations.

Try locating a correct X11R3 installation, or clarify what the problem is.

The most recent version is something like texx2.9, available from
a.cs.uiuc.edu:pub/TeX.

The next version will be designed with X11R4 in mind (I hope) and will
hopefully be a littler easier to install (ha).

We are running texx2.8 on HP-UX under HP X windows (X11R2). It works fine.
