I plan to get a read/write optical drive for my 825 as soon as possible. That means unless HP comes out with and HP-IB optical drive soon, I must go with another alternative. The one alternative I know about is the IEM drive. It is a CS-80 device, so the standard disk drivers should support it on the 800 (correct?). Now with all the discussion about partitions on the 800, and the fact they are hard coded into the kernal, can I make the IEM drive (which has a Sony mechanism, the same as the HP SCSI drive) work on the 800. Basically I want one partition for the whole drive. If the optical drive doesn't exist in the kernal, can I even make the one partition? If not, what version of HP-UX will support the optical drive? Any words on HP comming out with an HP-IB optical drive? (To put SCSI on the HP, even if it were available, I would need and expander, so it would be expensive!) Roger N. Clark ..!speclab!rclark

Roger: While at INTEREX last week I saw that Bring also had an optical disc that was Sony based and HP-IB. You may want to give them a call. They are based in Cupertino I think. Also, there is an ad in the Sept. issue of Design and Automation. tonyc
