My Vectra RS/16 will not simultaneously run an ethernet card (3COm and others, as well) and an HP VGA adaptor. There is apparently some DMA or interrupt conflict and HP doesn't seem to be able to help. Is anyone aware of this problem and a possible fix? Thanks.

The lab here is hooked with ethernets and we have no problems. A shot in the dark response is configure the HP VGA card as an 8 bit card not a 16 bit card and see what happens. This doesn't surprise me. I've had problems with the HPVGA card already just trying to run various software packages under SCO Xenix. So far I've had the following problems: 1- VGA Applictions under VP/ix for the most part don't run. 2- SCO CGI won't work with it. 3- SCO Xsight won't work with it. 8-( I'm beginning to wonder just how VGA compatible this VGA compatible card really is. I've reported the problem to HP and SCO with so far no results. I've anyone else has had this problem I'd appreciate it if you'd call HP & SCO. We need more people to report the problems with this card so we can perhaps get something done about it. -- Michael R. The HP card does have additional circuitry to support video shadow RAM on the RS/QS systems. This is a common source of the comptability problem with non-MSDOS system on the HP PCs. The problem can usually be solved by turning off shadow ram on the the PCs with the SETUP program. In the main menu, type in the "secret" code word (xbios) to get into the HP specific portion of SETUP and turn off video shadow RAM. Another cause of problems with non-MSDOS systems is the HPHIL interface. If you are not using it, you can also disable the HIL with SETUP in the HP specific portion of the program. Wonder if anyone at HP can tell us why they choose the Corollary multiport card for their use on their RS 386's when they begin official support of SCO Unix. Also can we expect the HP 486 EISA machine to show the same level of performace as the already introduced IBM 486 with the microchannel architecture with a supposed bus speed limit of 100 MegHrtz? Isn't EISA limited to 20 MegHrtz? A friend recently saw a demo of AutoCad on the 486 IBM box and was talking abot 2 seconds to run/load a 3-d object. Will we have equal performance on the HP with this "slower?" bus standard? Mel Shear !rex!mgse!fleet!mel 504-733-5333
