In the next couple of months we expect to de-commission our trusty HP9000 Series 500. The question is whether it is worth selling or instead finding some other use for it in our operation. This depends on what the thing is worth. Thus, I'm inquiring about the current marketplace. Some particulars: HP9000/500, single cpu, CS-80 135 Megabyte Winchester/cartridge tape, 4.5 Megabytes RAM, 24 ports (2x27130A, 1x27130B), HP-UX 5.1, FORTRAN, Pascal, STSC APL, under hardware service until August/1990, ~ 15 each 600' and 150' tapes (one-half never opened) plus all system tapes, complete hardcopy log, all manuals. We haven't had an unscheduled re-boot since October/88, and in fact haven't re-booted at all since I did one in June/89 before going on holidays. The system has *never* had a hardware failure (except for one MUX) since being turned on in Sept/84; the offending MUX has been stable since Dec/87. The machine is currently a production system, with all ports in fairly constant use. -- David Harrison | "God does not play dice with Dept. of Physics, Univ of Toronto | the universe." -- Einstein UUCP: uunet!attcan!utgpu!utfyzx!harrison | "Quit telling God what to BITNET: HARRISON@UTORPHYS | do." -- Niels Bohr
