[comp.sys.hp] Looking for Tektronix 4[12]xx X Emulator

paul@mecazh.UUCP (Paul Breslaw) (10/09/89)

A colleague has asked if there is an X11 emulator for Tektronix
models 41xx and 42xx graphics terminals.

This is in addition to the 401x support in xterm(1).

Information gratefully received.

Tektronix (of all places) has two items of note in this area.

1. On current Tek workstations, the X server will open a window and use
tek graphic hardware within that window (aka a terminal HARDWARE driven
window surrounded by X11-3 windows (on top of the root). This is called
the tekpeer window.

2. On workstations that dont have graphic hardware of the tek model, such
as the tek 4319 or XD88/10, tek has implemented a display list processor
to read 4010, 4100, 4200, or 4300 style moves, draws, and panel fils and
allow zoom/pan on the same. The X-extentions are prefaced with DL for
display list (such as XDLdrawline). This works pretty slick, and will
implemented by several vendors in their x-drivers for tek workstations.

A previous product, called tterm, runs under x10.4 (or as x10tox11 client)
and provides about 80% of a 4107 terminal (wheeze, gasp).

Tek also makes terminals that can run as X or tek graphics (XN11).
