Our 840 (HP-UX 3.1) acts as a gateway between our department's (Class B)
subnet and the University's backbone-subnet where other gateways can be found.
Some subnets are to be reached within more than one hop and at least
one router is connected to other IP-networks.
At the moment we have to maintain our routing-table manually, so we
entered an entry for default-routing via that well-connected intelligent
router mentioned above.
That has at least two disadvantages:
1) Operators of that router have to insert static routes for us
2) Everybody can reach all those nets known by that router and eventually
cause expenses by that.
But there exists a routing-daemon on most of the other gateways (and even
leaf-nodes). Have a look at 3.1's /etc/services - you can find an entry like
# @(#)$Header: services,v 14.6 88/10/31 10:39:40 dmh Exp $
route 520/udp router # ARPA routing information protocol
there, so the question is:
Has anyone ported "routed" to HP-UX or does anybody know whether this program
will be supported in the future ???
Any hint/help is welcome - please answer by e-mail.
tnx in adv
Peter
