I am in the process of evaluating 3rd party SCSI drive for HP 9000 series 300. Since we don't have too much support from our local SE, I thought it would make sense to post this news item. I have a 600 Mb FUJITSU M2263SA hooked up to the HP SCSI interface (HP98265A) on an HP 9000/370. To initialize the SCSI drive, I boot off a HP7937 (307 MB) drive hooked up to the slow HPIB. When I try to initialize the SCSI drive by performing a "mediainit" or a "newfs", the system crashes with a "bus error". There is a number of JUMPERS that needs to be set-up on the SCSI drive. This is how we set-up the SCSI drive: Setting Item Setting contents ------------ ---------------- SCSI ID 0 SCSI time monitoring Time monitoring is executed Read-ahead caching Permitted INQUIRY DATA Corresponds to SCSI-1/CCS Message Mode SAVE DATA POINTER is not issued for disconnection after data transfer Error report at CHECK CONDITION status is no posted MODE SELECT SCSI bus parity enabled on both the drive and the SCSI interface card Synchronous mode disabled data transfer UNIT ATTENTION responds with CHECK CONDITION status report mode SCSI time unlimited ACK signal monitoring time monitoring mode SELECTION monitoring time is set to 250 msec, 128 retries Is there something I did not set properly on the SCSI drive or the card ? Any help would greatly be appreciated... If anybody has succesfully hooked up a 3rd party SCSI drive to an HP 9000 series 300, I would like to know the vendor's name and model. For anybody interested, the 600 MB FUJITSU is sold for less than $5000 CDN ... -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jean-Yves Patry uunet!mitel!syscad6!patry (613) 592-2122 x4992 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
