Hai Recently i come across this problem on our HP 835 running hp-ux 3.1. I configured a remote printer on our system and i picked the printer device as one of unused ttys. Well, without checking /etc/devices file and i configured the printer and the device as /dev/tty10p1. when i tried to print, it crashed the system. i rebooted the system, and when it tried to start lp daemon from rc file, it crashed again. After couple of tries i hit a control c, just before to start lp daemon. Then it came up without any problems. Later i checked the devices file and i realized that those ttys aren't configured. I modified the printer configuration and its fine. I got the real problem later!!. One of the guys just did "cat testfile >/dev/tty10p1" as a normal user. Thats all was needed to kill the system. Now i removed the write permissions for those nonconfigured ttys. But it's kind of surprise to me why should this kill the system. Any suggetions or comments ??
