( I tried to mail this directly but it bounced. ) Hello Dan, I read you posting to comp.sys.hp where you were wondering if it was safe to go back into the water. I went ahead and install HP-UX 7.0 on an HP 9000/ 835, the day after I recieved it. Then I found out about the bugs, but no big deal I don't use fbackup and I don't have SCSI, and I like 7.0 on the 800 more that 6.5 on the 300. Which really suprised me, because HP-UX 3.1 on the 800 really sucked! (Sorry HP, I have to be honest) The only difficulties I had came with trying to use SAM, and it was minor (undocumented but minor). It turns out the SAM doesn't read the file /etc/conf/gen/S800 instead it wants a file called /etc/conf/gen/SAM, if this file is not around SAM will act like it is working and even have you reboot if you mucked with the kernel, but then much to your surprise everything is the same as it was before. The solution is to make a soft link between the S800 file and the SAM file. That way if you modify the kernel with or without SAM both files are update to reflect the change. I say "Just do it", but I may not have come up with that one on my own :-) Curt curt@oce.orst.edu
