I wonder if anyone knows whether the new drives announced for the HP Vectra 486 will work on the current Vectra RS 386 20 & 25 meghrtz CPU's? Those 330 & 670 megabyte drives with 150,000 hour MTBF (15 years) sound to good to be true. Also will a SCSI version be made available? THAT's RIGHT - 150,000 MTBF!!! Mel Shear !rex!fleet!mel

re: "Those 330 & 670 megabyte drives with 150,000 hour MTBF (15 years) sound to good to be true. Also will a SCSI version be made available?" The raw mechanisms are available only in embedded SCSI and embedded ESDI versions. The mechs should be orderable from HP distributors now, although there may be firmware differences between the OEM/distrib versions and the Vectra versions. Whether you can pop any of these into older Vectras I couldn't say, not being a PC person. I may be interested in buying a PaintJet printer if it can accept Postscript or if there is a translator from Postscript to HPGL. I want to print color slides made using idraw. Does the Paintjet accept Postscript? Is there a translator from postscript to HPGL? Thanks Tom niermann@bacj.csg.uiuc.edu

There are several Postscript translators that work with PaintJet. I believe that Ultrascript is probably your best bet for PaintJet since it handles color well (this is not official HP position, just my off-the-cuff impression from seeing a few of them).
