When I call the starbase function echo_type() on a turboSRX running the X11R4 server, I get the message "Resource not available". This used to work with the R3 server. There is no problem on an SRX, presumably because it does not have a hardware cursor. This is either a bad bug or an awful feature, since it renders some of our important software unusable. Is there any attention to this going on at HP? Thanks for any information... -- Gene Dykes, gdykes@tcgould.tn.cornell.edu

The answer is that the HP R4 server distributed by the MIT X Consortium does not support Starbase direct hardware access. The Starbase drivers require a set of server extensions which are not included in the R4 MIT release. Harry Phinney harry@hp-pcd.cv.hp.com
