[comp.sys.hp] Using HP 700/X X terminals on SCO UNIX -- eh?

mikel@hppad.HP.COM (Stuart Mikel) (06/27/90)

The 700/X will work booting from and running applications from SCO Unix.

The only real gotcha was transfering the files from the HP-UX host to the
386. The tftp user on HP-UX has it's root directory changed to /usr/tftpdir.
This is done for security reasons. On SCO tftp user root directory is still /

So when ftp'ing the files from HP-UX drop the /usr/tftpdir and it will work.

That depends on what protocol the terminal uses to download its code. If it
comes on-line knowing its internet address, it might use "tftp", which is
part of SCO's TCP/IP offering (thanks to Lachman/ISC). If it doesn't have
that in its configuration NVRAM, chances are it will want to use the BOOTP
protocol. That requires /etc/bootpd--if you have that file, you should be
OK. You'll need to download the terminal's image file onto the Vectra, and
tell bootpd where to find it through a configuration file. You'll also need
to know the hardware ethernet addresses of both your Vectra and the X
terminal; those go into the file, as well.

Someone who has more direct experience with this particular terminal can give
you a better handle. I just wanted to make sure you got some response.

Good luck!
