(The sound of bugs munching on your foundation) - I'm posting this article as a fervent plea for info regarding the 820 disk interfacing techniques required for 5 1/4" drives of the DEC RX180AB persuasion. I personnaly don't own an 820, but none of the folks in my office who do have a log-in. They have managed to get the drives to work only by grounding the motor-on line. Unfortunately, if the system is inadvertently reset while the disks are loaded, the heads bounce down, deposit a little garbage and then crash goes the system disk (write protected or not). Needless to say, my colleagues are rather upset over these trials and tribulations so if anyone out there in net land can help out, please mail info to me and I'll pass it along to the concerned parties. Also, if anyone out there knows of a cheap source of XEROX CPM 2.2x, please pass it along. One more thing..... These guys are relentless... Does anyone have a schematic for a double density controller for the 820-1? How about supporting PROM's and operating systems? -- Thanks in advance.. Pete Hermsen Bendix Field Engineering Corp.
