[comp.sys.hp] HP9000/300 and Telebit T2500

warlock@csuchico.edu (John Kennedy) (07/25/90)

We're trying to correctly hook up a T2500 to a HP9000/300 machine. Our
current setup lets us dial in (with another Telebit, at least) but it won't
dial out correctly (will dial, but won't connect) and CTS/RTS isn't working.
If you've done this before, please do tell. Our relevant information is
below: (Register dump from the modem, gettydefs, inittab, and device)

We're connected to the HP with a straight RS-232c cable (all 25 pins). I've
also used a cable with only pins 1-8, 20 & 22 connected. (No difference in
performance).

My problem (with CTS/RTS, at least) (-: with hardware handshaking seems to be
that RTS isn't being held high by the getty. Using cu will bring it high,
however. Looking in the manual under MODEM(7) in the "modem line control
modes" section, I can find a quote that says "When a connection is begun (an
incoming call for a call-in file or an open issued to a call-out file), the
CONTROL are raised and a connection timer is started." I tried a device with a
minor number of 0x090011 (? -- it's in the UUCP manual in making modem devices)
and it didn't seem to help either.

Any help at all would be appreciated. We'd like to start using the modem to
it's fullest potential as soon as possible.
