[comp.sys.hp] pstat and vmstat on HP-UX 6.2

pearmana@prlhp1.prl.philips.co.uk (Andy Pearman) (08/21/90)

I am running HP-UX 6.21 on an HP9000-350 with a fully configured
system.

Although documented in the reference manual, I can't find
pstat or vmstat anywhere.

Were these two very useful utilites implemented for the 300 series,
and if not, are they in versions 6.5 or 7.0 ??

Question number 2:

Every now and again I get a message on the console saying that
the process tables are full. Am I right in thinking that I
need to increase the value of MAXUSERS in /etc/conf/conf.c and
rebuild the kernel.

Its present value is 8.

Would 12 be a sensible value ????

   Thanks if you can help,

    Andy

I have to assume that you are talking about pstat(2) and vmstat(1). The
pstat system call was introduced (but not documented) in 7.0. Where did
you find it in Series 300 6.2 documentation? I would be interested in
knowing. It will be documented in the next major release after 7.0.

The vmstat command has always been supported on the Series 800. The
Series 300 6.5 manual entry clearly has "Series 800 only" across the
top. It will show up on the Series 300 in the next major release after
7.0.

I can't help you with your second question.

12 sounds OK but...

When I was running 6.2 I often got the "text table full" message that
can be fixed by increasing the "ntext" parameter of the kernel.

Actually, I believe that he may have been referring to a BSD utility
called pstat, which, I think, acted something like monitor(1), rather than
a system call.
