I need help with a LaserJetIII with Pacific 25 in One III cartridge,
and a HP Postscript cartridge. The printer also has a 2 Meg RAM board
installed that is recognized on self-test.
I can print normal text to the printer without the Postscript cartridge in,
no problem. Postscript, however, doesn't work. The printer boots fine with
the Postscript cartridge in, getting the "Postscript Ready" message. I also
have the Pacific cartridge in if that makes any difference. However,
when I send any Postscript files, it just sits and churns. Last
night it ran all night with the "Processing Data" message.
Here are a couple headers of Postscript files that I have sent:
1)--------------------------------------------------------------------------
%!-PS-Adobe-1.0
%%Creator: Teamwork-PostScript Object Interface
%%CreationDate: Fri 21 Sep 1990 07:27:23 EST
2)--------------------------------------------------------------------------
%! a2ps 3.0
%! PostScript Source Code
%
% File: imag:/users/local/a2ps/header.ps
% Created: Tue Nov 29 12:14:02 1988 by miguel@imag (Miguel Santana)
3)--------------------------------------------------------------------------
%! xwps (xwindow to postscript)
/inch {72 mul} def
/picstr 196 string def
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
To get these files to the printer, I'm just doing the standard:
$ lp -dlj filename
Is there something simple that I'm missing? Thanks for any help...

Thanks for any help... You haven't told us what host computer you are using. It does at least appear to be some flavor of Unix. If it is HP-UX, we don't officially support PostScript printing via the spooler yet. You at least need a "-oraw" option to the spooler, and you may also need to modify the spooler to suppress transmission of some printer control stuff like <ESC>E hard resets, which probably confuse PostScript. If the printer is hooked up via serial, you might might try hooking the cable to an HP terminal, and watch the link traffic with DISPLAY FUNCTIONS enable to may the control characters visible.
