Has anyone had any success getting a 4.3BSD compatible version of talk running under HP-UX 7.0? I feel I'm getting close, but... When I give the command on the HP "talk jwright@uwila", the following appears in my xterm on the Sun. Message from Talk_Daemon@uwila at 10:29 ... talk: connection requested by jwright@quonset.cfht.hawaii.edu. talk: respond with: talk jwright@quonset.cfht.hawaii.edu I then get the split screen, and the following prompt appears [Trying to connect to your party's talk daemon] It then just hangs. So it does get out on the network, and it is able to communicate at least a little with the Sun's talkd. On the Sun side, when I try "talk jwright@quonset" I get the following message, and then it hangs. [Checking for invitation on caller's machine] None of the above depends on which side tries to initiate the talk. It behaves about the same if I'm going from HP to HP, or staying within a single machine. I'm using the Sun so that I can test with at least one half of the system working. Works just fine on a single Sun or between Suns. BTW, I got the source for talk from the "liberated Berkeley distribution" on uunet. PS - "write" sucks. :-) -- Jim Wright jwright@cfht.hawaii.edu Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope Corp.
