I may soon be in a position to need to do some work on an HP3000. I need information regarding Ethernet boards for this machine. Would such a board be available only from HP? If not who else? What might I expect to pay for such a device? Any information or pointers to the same will be most appreciated. Thanks, J. Seth Strattan strattan@lindy.stanford.edu

I may soon be in a position to need to do some work on an HP3000. I need information regarding Ethernet boards for this machine. Since no one else has replied...the 802.3 LAN interface is what you want. MPE/V release V-Delta-5 supports Ethernet as well as 802.3 on that card. You need the appropriate NS link product (TCP/IP/LAN) and either the NS services (HP proprietary protocols) or Wollongong's WIN/H3000 (Telnet, FTP, and SMTP). I don't know anything about the price, but I bet that your HP field office would tell you. wunder

Here's my query... At school we have a poor excuse for a HP 3000 "mainframe" system. I argued it was a mini-computer, but, my teacher persisted it was indeed a mainframe... Anybody know anything about the OLE (REAL, REAL OLD) 3000's? I've figured out how to SJ, and TALK which we don't have access to, and, how to LISTF @.@.@ to get a total list of files.. Another thing I "can't" do with my access..I also glimpsed something about joint accounts like "Hello George.juniord, Sean.juniord" or something like that... The RELEASE command has proven successful at aiding class assignments...Anything else sombody could enlighten me to? I'm just an Amiga 2000 "simpleton" and could use a helping hand from sombody more qualified than myself.... Thanks alot! -George

I argued it was a mini-computer, but, my teacher > persisted it was indeed a mainframe... Anybody know anything about the OLE It's a mini but you said OLE, which HP3000 model do you have there? Doing ShowMe will display a line (the 2nd. one) like this: RELEASE: G.A3.05 MPE V HP32033 G.03.05 VERSION: G.A3.05 this info tells you what MPE version are you using. Send me that line to see how old is your MPE (The HP-3000 operating system). > (REAL, REAL OLD) 3000's? I've figured out how to SJ, and TALK which we > don't have access to, and, how to LISTF @.@.@ to get a total list of > files.. Another thing I "can't" do with my access..I also glimpsed SJ should be an abbreviated UDC command for ShowJob but any users has access to ShowJob and Listf, no special access is needed to use those commands. You can get interactive help with the HELP command. It will you help about the native commands (those that came embedded in the operating system) To see the User Defined Commands, I mean those defined in a UDC, like SJ, TALK, etc) you must use the ShowCatalog command. > something about joint accounts like "Hello George.juniord, Sean.juniord" The Hello command is spelled "Hello [SessionName,] User.Account[,Group]...." The SessionName is optional and could be any name you want use to identify a session (up to 8 alphanumerics), i.e. George. The User.Account is mandatory and now you should know what means. The Group is optional and is used to left you sit in that group instead of your home (default) group. The account is split in subdirectories named groups. > or something like that... The RELEASE command has proven successful at Avoid Releasing files. Any user can purge, modify, replace etc. a Released file. Use an appropiate access matrix. With the AltAccount, AltGroup and AltSec commands you can allow other users to read, write, append, etc. your files. To see you access to files in other accounts do Listf ListDir@.Pub.Sys (depending on your MPE version the ListDir program could be named ListDir2, ListDir5) once you know the program name do Run Listdir?.Pub.Sys, at the > prompt type Help and then use that commands. Remember that a multiuser system is a little more complex that a single user one and, to close, RTFM (Read The Fucking Manuals! just in case you haven't see it before) :-) -- Eduardo J.
