[net.wanted] Datakit/WPN/"The Lan" info request

pjp@hw3b.UUCP (Powers P.J. CU 08CU106420 ) (05/04/84)

TO: All who know something about datakit.

Ladies and gentlemen,
I have been looking into the "datakit" system for a LAN
solution. I would like all the feedback on datakit that
I can get! In particular, I need to know:

1. What is the cost per port of hooking up Datakit?

2. What is the cost and availability of the switch?

3. How are changes and re-arrangements performed? Are they
very tedious, a headache? Comments please..

4. How about the down time. As datakit gets busy, does
the switch perform within reasonable standards?

5. If a circuit card within the datakit system becomes
defective, how does this affect the users on the network?
Do you have to take the machine down for simple maintenance?

6. Does datakit need any special environmental requirements?
Does datakit fit into say a 10'x10' partitioned office
    cubical without any modifications?

7. Comments on power requirements, etc. Can you plug datakit
into normal power without accidently tripping breakers?

8. What is the "LAN" or "WPN". I'm looking for answers especially
from some of the BTL designers at Denver.

Please, give me as much ammo, pro or con, about the network. I
would like to gather as much information as quickly as possible.

Thanx in advance,
