[comp.sys.hp] scsi tape driver

ian@dms.cdc.com (Ian Hogg) (10/14/90)

I am trying to install an Exabyte tape device on my HP 9000/375. I
reconfigured my kernel with the (unsupported) scsitape driver. I am running
HP-UX 7.0. From info in the master file, I did the following:

  mknod /dev/rst1 c 54 0x0e0100

since I set it's scsi id to 1. The system boots and I'm able to do tar's to
the tape. Is there any way (via the last two bytes on the minor number) to
modify the behavior of the device?

   1. Auto-rewind versus no rewind?

   2. Variable length records vs fixed length records?

   3. How can I write multiple files on the same tape?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
