>If we export filesystems from the HP to another host, or to the world, >all the files created or modified by this host will get an uid of "-2". >This is independent of which user on the host creates the file, that is >"root" or "someoneelse" are treated identically. This problem leads to the >fact, that I have to give rwx - rights to anyone, to allow for modification/ >creation of files. We have a very diverse NFS network of Sun, HP, DEC, and SGI computers here and have never seen the symptoms you describe. We have disabled "nobody" mapping in our 300 cluster so we can do backups, but this only allows root access. Files created are correctly mapped to the UID of the creating remote process. A thought: do all your machines accounts share identical passwd entries, including UID and group numbers? You must have a unified passwd file to make NFS work correctly. The SGI machines are a constant NFS problem. Disks mounted from the HP show 0 blocks if you issue a bdf command. File access from the SGI to the HP is very unstable (sometines it works, sometimes it gets a partial listing, sometines it hangs). Best we can see there appears to be a YP interaction on the SGIs. Can you give us a discription of your network, what machines you have and some details of your account structure? ********************************************************************* Tony Burzio * The invisible man was arrested for Martin Marietta Labs * streaking today, but the case was thrown mmlab!burzio@uunet.uu.net * out of court for lack of evidence... *********************************************************************
