hi world, We just setup an NS network between our HP3000/37, HP3000/922 and an HP9000/825. We can logon interactive session between the 3000's and we can logon from the 9000 to one of the 3000's using vt3k, but we aren't able to logon from the 3000's onto the 9000. When we do an "remote:<name>", we get the error message, that the remote node (the 9000/825) does not support virtual terminal requests. what's wrong ? hellmuth -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hellmuth Michaelis HCS Hanseatischer Computerservice GmbH Hamburg, Europe uucp: hm@hcshh.UUCP (..!mcsun!unido!hcshh!hm) phone: +49 40 5501075 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As far as I know, you would need a program like vt9k to go from a 9000 to a 3000. I don't think a program like that exists. I just use my workstation to log onto 800s and 900s and use dscopy if needed.

Well, the thing is that there is no current official HP product that will allow one to establish a 'VT' connection from a 3000 to a 9000. For the V's, one can try the Wollongong offering which will give you Telnet/FTP/etc... For the XL's you need to wait for "Telnet/XL" (actually, it uses the DTC but... ;-) Which will provide a solution whereby the DTC takes an incomming Telnet connection and turns it into a 'DTC connection' to the XL hosts system. Outbound connections would be established from/by the DTC. The stated advantage of this method is to off-load the character stream processing onto the DTC, freeing the XL host to to useful work. Your friendly neighborhood sales rep should have some more information about the DTC/Telnet solution for XL. As always, we can only talk about things official here ;-) ___ _ ___ |__) /_\ | Richard Anders Jones | MPE/XL Networking Engineer | \_/ \_/ Hewlett-Packard Co. | But it IS TCP/IP! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Being an employee of a Standards Company, all Standard Disclaimers Apply

There is no support for 3k to 9k virtual connections. Only support is 9k to 3k via vt3k. The 9k vt/vtdaemon uses another protocol. If on other hand you need 3k to 9k connectivity there is the posibilty to use Wollongong TCP/IP. john@hpucph Danish Response Centre
