The University of Utah (50 miles north of here) is doing the BSD stuff
on HP computers. It has been available for some time on either the
300 series or the 800 series, I can't remember which. I'm guessing
it's the 300. I don't know how the 400 is coming but it shouldn't
change too much from the 300 version.

I have heard reports that HP is funding some academic institution in
Utah to port true BSD to the 400 line. Jay, could this perhaps be your
    institution?

I believe the university you're referring to is U of Utah, not BYU. U of
Utah ported 4.3 BSD to the Series 300. I don't know if there are plans to
port to the 400s.
