<Bugs like these keeps systems programmers employed>

Recently, I have found out that the Computer Science Department
at the University of Georgia (my employer) is getting a machine from Harris
Corp. From the word I get, I heard it was a Harris 800. Can anyone out there
in netland give me any information on this computer, or others in the Harris
line. What I need to know is performance, architecture, software it runs
(i.e.: does Harris have UN*X for it), etc.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!!
If there is enough interest, I will post a summary of what I get.

	Thanks in advance!

The Harris while seemingly a reasonably priced and performing machine
is wierd. The architecture is incredibly strange and the 24 bit word
size doesn't help. Harris does have a C compiler for it but they don't
plan on really doing UNIX for it. There network plans include NETIX
(NSC Hyperchannel) but not TCP/IP. Their current operating system VULCAN
looks like something from the sixties. It is even less usable than EXEC8.

And to prepare a program for execution, you use the VULCANIZE program. No
kidding..
