[comp.sys.hp] funny error messages

smith@wallaby.mrc.uidaho.edu (William D. Smith) (01/14/91)

Heres an error message I just had show up on an HP 375. It
seems to have caused a system halt. I don't think I'll worry
about it unless it happens again, but it struck me as humorous.

oops kernal map needs to be bigger

robs@hpuamsa.neth.hp.com (Rob Slotemaker CRC) (01/15/91)

The error is indicating that there is insufficient free memory in the kernel,
due to an error in the code for auditing. For each audit record some memory is
allocated, but isn't being free'd.

So, if no system calls or events are being audited, the error would not occur.

The problem is fixed in HP-UX 7.0.
