[comp.sys.hp] Ethernet on an HP1000 model A900 running RTEA ?

vaillan@ireq.hydro.qc.ca (Clement Vaillancourt) (01/12/91)

Is it possible to connect a HP1000 model A900 running RTEA to ethernet?

We would like to ftp files to a Sun. The protocol is TCP/IP.

Is there any third party company doing this kind of interface and the
software? Two years ago, HP was asking about 25 k.$ for this...

Our budjet is smaller than 25K.

Regard,

Clem.

HP has a product call Network Services/1000 which includes FTP, TELNET,
PING and routing/gateway support. The software also is upward compatable	with the old DS services in case you have old machines. Basically all you
need is an ethernet card (HP calls then LANIC) and the software. We have
it running at various locations here connected to vaxes, suns etc.

HP has both Hardware and Software to do what you want. The I/O
card is the 12076A LAN/1000 Link Interface. It is available with either
an IEEE 802.3 connection or ethernet. The price is $3685 (US) with
a return of $500 if you choose opt. -001 (ethernet connection).

The software you need is 91790A NS-ARPA/1000 Network Services.
The price of this depends on what processor it will be used on. The
prices range from $2015 for an A400 to $8380 in an A900 CPU.

This price is under the $25k you mention, however, there is
a minimum requirement of 2Mb and a recommended minimum of ~4Mb. On
the A900, a 3Mb memory card is $9000. On the other processors, there
is a special product (12176A) that incorporates the 12076A LAN card
and 2Mb of memory for a total of $5500. (You can increase this to a
4Mb card for an additional $1700). NOTE: This special is NOT good
on the A900.

These prices are from the Nov. 1990 Ordering Guide and may have
changed. I recommend that you contact your HP sales rep for more
information.

I seem to remember that there is an Arpa/1000 product with
no NS which is even cheaper than the NS/Arpa. With LAn Link alone
you also have access to the LLA level.
