We have a researcher here with a data collection system on an HP 345C system. He wants to exchange data with a Macintosh. If the HP can read and write MS-DOS disks (it has a 3 1/2" floppy) we can get the data to a Mac. Does anyone know if this can be done? I know 0% about the HP 345C, so you have to use words of few syllables. If we can't share floppies, we may need some other alternatives. I thought of a serial line interface, and the researcher knows about a package called Fusion for Basic (?). Anyone have advice? -- Bruce G. Barnett barnett@crd.ge.com uunet!crdgw1!barnett

The HP supplied utilities may not work with a post 3x version of DOS - There is a version os dos/unix read utilities with patches to clean it up and work with later DOS stuff (the later dos has some added structure to make it easy to implement larger discs - this thows off the early stuff) available on uu.uunet. We have been able to read Magneto-Opticals from a DOS 4.1 on our 345 with the pd stuff. WIth respect to transfer... if you have to use a serial port one easy way is to run kermit on all the systems. Versaterm for the Mac uses kermit but there a versions of kermit easily available for all PC's, HP's and Macs. You can serial kermit direct from Mac to PC if you care to. hurf -- Hurf Sheldon Network: hurf@theory.tn.cornell.edu Program of Computer Graphics Phone: 607 255 6713 580 Eng.
