[comp.sys.hp] Kermit Problems

Hi there,

I am trying to set up Kermit on our HP 9000 series 200/300 computers
but I'm running into few problems. Our HPs are running HP Basic and are
equipped with HP 98644 serial cards. When I run Kermit, I am able to
execute all Kermit commands ok, but in the terminal emulation mode all I get
is a blinking cursor and no response from the other side. The "other side"
is a Local Area Transport (LAT) port operating at 9600 baud with 8 N 1 con-
figuration. I have set up Kermit in the same way. Now, according to the
manual, blinking cursor and a functioning local echo indicate that all is
well with the serial port. This prompted me to examine connections but
I still got no response with or without null modem the only difference
being that *without* null modem I didn't even get the blinking cursor.

An additional side effect of Kermit is that it seems to set the
HP terminal so that it does not issue LF characters so after using Kermit
when I do CAT the output looks garbled. I haven't found a way to fix that
other than by doing cold reboot.

Would anyone out there know what is going on or what I am doing
wrong ? Any hints and/or comments will be appreciated. Thank you for
your time and assistance in this matter,

						Sincerely,

Sounds like Kermit is setting the EOL sequence for the CRT "printer" device.
Try doing: PRINTER IS CRT after exiting from Kermit to reset the default
values. If this doesn't work, SCRATCH A _should_ fix it. Hope this helps.
