We want to get the HP equipment on our lab tighter connected. Our setup: We have a HP9000-300 running HP UX connected via ethernet to the rest of our Unix machines. It also got an HP IB (Instrumentation Bus?). In addition, we have a HP Personal Computer (not running DOS, but with BASIC, I belive) which also have an HP IB. Currently we use the PC to control a lot of instruments hanging on the bus and to collect the data from the experiments. The PC is also used to Fourier transform the incoming data. What we want: We want to use the HP9000-300 to do the Fourier transform, and to get results directly onto the rest of our Unix machines. The question: Is it possible the read the data of the HP IB from the HP9000-300? How much programing would we have to do to get it to work? Writing device drivers? Is it easier to connect the two machines with Kermit or something like that? (Our local HP dealer says this is simpler.) In either case, I would like to get comment for how we should proceed. Please mail me your comment, and I'll sumerize to the net (if I get anything worth sumerizing). Thanks in advance. -------------------------------- Dag Asheim dash@math.uio.no Department of Mathematics University of Oslo, Norway
