[comp.sys.hp] Booting a diskless 340 without a console

curt@OCE.ORST.EDU (Curt Vandetta) (03/14/91)

  Hello folks,

  I have a diskless 9000/340 8M served by a 9000/370 running HPUX 7.0
(Maybe 7.03). For reasons I will not attemp to explain, the video
board (Monochrome) for the 340 has been pulled out of the 340 and
replaced with an animation controler. Than animation controler is
not able to act as a console. I can currently get the 340 to boot
but it only stays up for about 5 minutes then it crashes. I would
like to find out why it is crashing. Is there any way to get the
the 340 to think that a terminal hooked to it serial port is it's
  console?

So the real problem is, can I make the 340 boot with a console
that is hooked to a tty?

  Thanks,
  Curt

You want to find the "REMOTE" switch. That makes the computer use
the built-in serial interface as console. I don't know were it is
on a 340, but start by looking at the documentation that came with
the CPU box, or look at the system interface card that contains the
9-pin RS-232.
