performance of kermit has been spastic in the extreme. Over a pad connection to the HP-UX X.29 server input is restricted to 1 packet/second or so. Over a telnet connection (from our Gandalf PACX2000/starmaster) we can only get it to work at all with tiny packet size eg 20 bytes. These symptoms apply in various forms with the release HP kermit and with C-kermit compiled for the HP. Has anyone similar or contrary expeience or relevant advice??? I have had almost no problems with the kermit provided with HP-UX 7.0: C-Kermit, 4E(072) 24 Jan 89, HP 9000 Series HP-UX There are newer kermits around, e.g., on my NeXT from which I am logged in: C-Kermit 5A(165) ALPHA, 20 Jan 91, NeXT Mach 2.0, which has some extra features (packets up to 9600 being the main distinction, but also block 5 checking). I have used HP-Kermit extensively via a modem with packets up to 2400 bytes. Only one failure so far -- on an 11 MB tar-file it (or the network server) timed out after about 18 hours! No experience with kermit over telnet: I usually prefer the fasster ange-ftp (under emacs), or rcp, when possible. Hardy -------****------- Meinhard E.
