First, I have a hp9000s375 with a 98730 graphics system, so I have 24 bits of color. Currently, I'm running X11R4 and mwm window managers on both my 8 bit screen and my 24 bit screen. I'm trying to display 24 bit images on my 24bit screen using just X11 calls and I seem to be having colormap problems. If I explicitly make a directcolor visual class window and display my image in that window, then 8bit colors are displayed with the window in not "focused" and 24 bit color when it is focused (but the rest of the screen goes black).
