[comp.sys.hp] HP 9000 floppy drives

jim@applix.com (Jim Morton [ext 237]) (03/25/91)

I hooked up a 9122 flexible diskette drive to my 9000/375
machine, and am trying to use "mediainit" to format the
floppies. I can't find any documentation on the -f format
options...can anyone tell me what the supported options
are and how (if at all) they correspond to what the rest
of the world (DOS, Xenix, SunOS) calls DS/HD or DS/DD diskettes???
(Oh, by the way: HP-UX 7.0)

please send email and I'll summarize the info here. Thanks.

Here is the table of floppy formats historically supported by HP workstations.
The current HP 9122C (HP-IB, SS/80) drive supports all of them, although
the Vectra does not, nor does the 9114B portable disk drive.

The documentation you need is squirreled away in /etc/disktab. It has
a rather lengthy dialogue about microfloppies and all possible options.
/etc/disktab is meant to be read by people who need more information
about disks.

Please see the section "A word about microfloppies ..." in
"/etc/[newconfig/]disktab". Obvious place isn't it ? :-)
