Since I posted my question about XDMCP and .Xauthority, I have talked at length with the response centre, and have been told that while the authorization code may be present enough to write-out a .Xauthority file for each user who logs-in, it has been deactivated in the HP release. Needless to say, this did NOT make me a happy camper. As a college campus, we absolutely need a user-based security system which will function on a terminal-by-terminal basis. Those of you who may be wondering what the deal is can now relax: don't worry -- it's broken. This whole incident is typical of the HP paradox: on the one hand, there's folks out there, who are willing to help in a substantially useful way, such as the guy who mailed me an ASCII version of the entire xdm documentation. On the other hand, HP still hasn't been able to wake-up and realize that there's more to users' demands than what their software planners might find "likely." One wonders why they would make an entirely new X11R4 release and not include the XDMCP stuff... =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Tim Gurbick a.k.a. teg@peabody.iusb.indiana.edu Dept of Math & CS: 237-GEEK Help: 911 d.b.a. teg@natasha.iusb.indiana.edu `whois \!TEG12` Traci:0x45 SYSV: just say NO! teg@nova.cc.purdue.edu !hoser The Amiga: Born a Champion Me: International Unix Standards Bored, educational division: (219)237-IHEX address: CS Dept IUSB POB 7111 1700 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, IN 46634 "Work FOR?
