[comp.sys.hp] Biases, Disclaimers and Snake Oil..

shankar@hpcupt3.cup.hp.com (Shankar Unni) (04/19/91)

Regarding the recent complaint by Nick Lemberos (nick@sura.uucp (?)),
I have to admit that he's got one valid point. Please, HP folks, as a
matter of etiquette, and just to be on the safe side, add a generic short
disclaimer, indicating that the information provided as a personal
comment.

At the same time, Nick, I think it's unfair to impute base motives to
anyone posting from the company - we're not snake oil salespeople, if
you'll pardon the pun - we genuinely try to be informative in response to
queries on the net, and at the same time, cannot help occasionally plugging
the products a little, not because we feel obliged to plug anything and
everything made by HP, but because we genuinely like them (personal opinion
here, folks). At the same time, we're also the severest critics of things
we feel are not done right, but of course, we would prefer not to carry on
those discussions in a public forum, because that would be more confusing
than informative to most of the readers..

You're right that the only "real, official" source for information is your
nearest HP sales office.
