Dear HP users, I am a rookie sys. adm. for a cluster of 3 HP workstations. This is merely a part time task, since what I get paid for is CFD research. We needed someone to take care of our system and I got stuck with the job. Good experience I guess, but it can sure delay research sometimes. Anyway, on to the questions. The cluster we have consist of a 400t, 350, 400s, the 400s is the server. We just got our upgrade from 7.03 to 7.05 so we can move up to our 040's on the 400's. The questions that I have I don't seem to find any obvious answers in the manuals. However, please forgive me if I overlooked the obvious. I will be doing an update, not install. 1. We have modified some system parameters in the kernel, shmmaxaddr, I think. Will the new kernel, 7.05 know this and build with the right values or do I have to reset all of our system params? 2. We have an old 130 MB disk for additional swap space off of the server, will the new kernel immediately know about it or do I have reinstall it? I guess that is all. It seemed like more when I was thinking of the task at hand. I don't like modifing system stuff, I can't wait to get a unrecoverable error and lose the whole groups research! It'l probably haven't during a backup. Thanks for any advice. Todd Henderson hender@uicfdc.aae.uiuc.edu
