[comp.sys.hp] nntp && nn on an HP 9000/835, HP/UX 7.0

Basically--- HELP!!!!

I'm attempting to get a USENET feed for our HP 9000/835 and am running
into a few problems. I used to use nn(6.4) when we had access to a
remote server, but we've since been disconnected and are forced to set up our
own server. I went and got nntp(1.5.11) and started on my merry way. Believing
of course that because it said it had been compiled on an 825 it would work
on our 835. Misconception on my part.

I sent a note to some folks involved directly with nntp and one of the
questions posed was why not use B-News or C-News. Seems as though they had
not tried interfacing it with nn or am I too nieve about nn to know that it
is very similar to one of these programs. Please enlighten me. I liked the
user interface with nn and would like to continue using it if at all possible.

If anyone could lend a guiding light, I would greatly appreciate it.

I run nntp 1.5.9 on lut.fi, which is a HP9000/845 running HP-UX 7.0.
I used to run nntp on cc.lut.fi as well, a HP9000/825. Both worked
just fine with me. Note: I haven't upgraded to 1.5.10 or 1.5.11,
because I've heard of some problems with those versions. 1.5.9 seems
to be enough for me.

Running B- or C-News means, that you would be setting up a news server
of your own. That means, you are going to have all the articles on
your very own disk space.

I run C-News (not upgraded for at least 4 months) on lut.fi. I
swithced over from B-News and after getting used to administering
C-News I've been very pleased with it. I am having much less trouble
than with B-News.

The user interfaces used around here are nn 6.4.10 and GNUS 3.13. We
do have rn and vnews also, but I believe nobody uses them. They all
work just fine though.

All this stuff worked without any major modifications. I think you
should manage setting them up quite well. In case you run into
problems, send me a note, and I'll see what I can do. I do not have
that much time, but I'm sure I'll be able to make some ;-)

Regards
