[comp.sys.hp] Peripherals for HP Portable Vectra CS

mgm601@anu.oz.au (" Marcia G McPherson") (05/01/91)

My family has an HP Portable Vectra CS at home, which we have used for 2 years.
We run MS-DOS 3.2, MS Works v1.0, MS Word v5.0 and Turbo C v2.0. My eldest son
is now at the ANU, studying Computer Science, and would like to get a modem
so that he can work from home, instead of having to go in (25 km) to the Uni.
every time he wants to do an assignment.
We tried asking out local HP dealers, but they don't seem to know that the
Portable Vectra actually exists. The HP Headquarters don't seem very helpful
either - maybe because they figure they won't get enough return. To make things
worse, I heard a rumour that the low end Vectras (CS, Portable CS and Portable
CS model 20) had been phased out. Does that mean that peripheral prices will
go up or down?
If anyone can help me, my son would be extremely grateful.

thanx in advance,

						M.G. McPherson

You should be able to get any external modem from anybody and hook it up
to the serial port. You can forget about finding an internal modem.
You can get a 2400 baud external modem for about $100-$200 depending
on what features beyond the basic set are in the modem.

Yes, the low end Vectra models you listed are obsolete products.
