I must cast a vote in favor of Rob Wasserman of the David Grisman Quartet. In addition to his fine work with the DGQ, rumor has it that he will soon (or perhaps already has) release a SOLO acoustic bass ALBUM. Having heard one of his solo compositions live, I know that the album will be fantastic. Second place has to go to John Cowan for his R&B electric bass work with the Newgrass Revival. well, I suppose my favorite bass player has to be Ray Brown. He has backed everyone from Ella Fitzgerald to Steely Dan, from Count Basie to Rick Springfield. he's done some marvelous duet work with guitarist Joe Pass. I'd venture to guess that he shows up on several dozen L.P.'s each year. Aside from the great Tower Of Power horn section, Ray Brown is probably the most sought after studio musician in the country. He must be highly rated by his peers in the industry. bunkerb!mat

As an ex-Chicagoan I can verify the reports on the excellence of Duke Tomatoe and the All-Star Frogs. I'm sorry to hear they broke up; does that mean Duke is without L. V. Hammond?
