I am considering purchasing an HP/Apollo Model 720 Workstation (OS HP-UX 8.01, to be upgraded to HP-UX 8.05 in July) the primary function of which will be to run a program package called LINKAGE which has routines written in both Pascal and C. If anyone has had experience using an HP Mdl 720, what kind of support have you gotten from HP/Apollo? Do they respond to questions about hardware, the operating system, and their compilers promptly? How does HP-UX compare to Ultrix? I am primarily concerned with the support issue, as most of our students have no workstation experience and no Unix experience, but they will be working on projects which will require use of the workstation. DEC and Sun seem to have a very large base of operations on our campus, but HP/Apollo does not. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate them.
