[comp.sys.hp] Postscript printers under HPUX

mcmillan@harpsichord.cis.ohio-state.edu (Hal McMillan) (05/09/91)

We have an LJIII connected to our 9000/400 and it works fine in PCL
mode. We are trying to set this up as a postscript device. We have
the memory and the HP PS cartridge, but it appears that we don't have
the proper software on the HPUX side. Being a rookie at this, I'm
assuming that I need a PS model file in the /usr/spool/lp/model
directory (I am currently using the PCL4 model file). I also believe
that I would need some software to convert plain text files to
postscript when necessary. Is there an FTP source for this kind of
stuff?

You may want to get "psf". It allows ascii printing
on a postscript printer, and can also be used as a
printer model. It was posted under comp.sources.(misc?)
a while ago so it should be available via ftp from
the uunet archive (uunet.uu.net I believe).

I am using the "transcript" software from adobe. You have to
buy it though..... (I am not sure of the price. We have a source
license here at UC Berkeley).

I think there is a public domain system, ghostscript, that does what
you want. It is ftp'able from Univ of Utah machines (I think
jaguar.utah.edu).
