We're having a problem with an HP 9000/330 running HP-UX 7.03. Sometimes people's telnet sessions hang and can't be recovered. Typically, when this is going on, I can ping the 9000 and find it alive, but no telnet sessions can be opened. Sometimes this resolves itself in a few minutes. Other times, the machine hangs so badly it has to be rebooted. There have been times when the whole subnet it's on will hang and we can't telnet to the MicroVAX or the HP 3000 which are also on this subnet. At first I suspected broadcast storms, but everything on the net is set for 1's broadcasts, and the subnet is isolated from our other building subnets via a cisco Systems gateway server. Rebooting the HP 9000 usually solves the problem right away, even if every machine on the subnet seems to refuse to respond. We're a little short of testing tools. Can anyone recommend a test plan for tracking this down? Please respond by e-mail to : jstahlhu@jenner.med.harvard.edu ... since my account at MIT is a guest account and I don't want to clutter up their system with my personal e-mail. Thanks.
