Is it true that LAN Manager/X is now bundled with HP-UX? There seems to be some confusion on that point in the local HP sales office. I've heard that it's available via a "postcard offer", and that it's a two-user license. If so, when does this special offer end? Does it include the MS-DOS client software? I remember when I first bought ISC UNIX for my 386, it came with PC/interface -- great I thought, until I learned that you don't get the DOS clients. -- Paul Gillingwater, paul@actrix.gen.nz

There is a "demonstration model" of LM/X included with HP-UX 8.0, which supports a limited number of users and times out 4 weeks after installation. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Mike Light HP General Systems Division - mlight@hpperf1.HP.COM -----------------------------------------------------------------------

You do get DOS clients with the server. When you purchase the computer (actually I believe it is with the O/S) you would get a postcard to send in to here at HP's Colorado Networks Division and a kit containing the server software on tape along with the client is dropped into the mail for you. With the 8.0 release, the LMX server software should be on the release tape. However, the client would still have to be shipped separately from here. There is presently no ending date for this promotion. So send in those cards and letters... Steve Bunten Product Marketing Colorado Networks Division

I checked with the lab about the question of a time bomb. There is no such thing built into the server. It is limited by the number of clients (3) and the client software provides only the Basic redirector. With the full product you have a choice of either Basic or Enhanced redirectors. Enhanced offers support for the LAN Mgr API's (e.g. Named Pipes) and additional administration capabilities such as a windows-like interface for accessing the servers on the network, etc. I hope this clarifies things.
